Our Journey Creates Our Story

Have I ever told you I'm a corporate dropout?

It's true! And it's been a huge part of my journey to becoming an entrepreneur. Personally, I would've never been ready to start my own business without those years of working for other companies.

I don't think there are any normal steps towards entrepreneurship. I have creative colleagues who've been going at it independently since they graduated college. (Or even earlier!) I've worked with women who are full-time moms and then get back into business by way of creating something new for themselves. And, I know plenty of people in their 40s, 50s, and even 60s who decided to make a midlife career change!

Here's an example of mine…

As a former marketing director, I've had over a decade of experience working in social media, public relations, brand management, and advertising for consumer products. In 2019, I started my own creative company, Back Label Branding, to help women entrepreneurs launch and scale their marketing efforts. Because of my background, I bring a holistic approach to the picture and love offering advice on marketing strategy — no matter what I'm working on. As a copywriter and content creator, I often find myself collaborating with other creatives, which I'm deeply passionate about. This is what ultimately led me also to co-found Alinea Collective, a full-service branding agency built on the value of collaboration.

See what I did there? My journey positions me in a super unique way (bringing a holistic marketing view to content creation) and also explains why I like to surround myself with other creatives (I’m used to a team). And, it’s also fun because you get a little insight into my story.

I love weaving in personal elements and a touch of that storytelling narrative into brand copy. It creates statements that for one, are more interesting to read, and also bring through more personality with this kind of tone.

Where are you at on your journey and how did it get you here?
